Social Entrepreneur Corps was established by Ashoka Fellow Greg Van Kirk and George “Bucky” Glickley, the co- founders of Community Enterprise Solutions (CE Solutions) and innovators of the MicroConsignment Model. Greg and Bucky are former Guatemala Peace Corps Volunteers who have been working for the past eight years to create intelligent entrepreneurial and educational solutions for long-standing development challenges. Social Entrepreneur Corps provides university students, recent graduates and young professionals with the means to truly experience and participate in innovative development work.
Social Entrepreneur is a social enterprise whose mission is to design and implement innovative, practical, efficient and effective entrepreneurial and educational solutions with and for their constituents in rural, developing world communities. Through their years of experience they have learned how to elegantly integrate students, recent graduates and young professionals into their development efforts in order to create greater grassroots impact. Through Social Entrepreneur Corps they have been able to create a unique situation in which all parties involved, interns, volunteers, travelers and locals alike, gain immeasurably from the experience.

In short, relief assistance is about providing critical assistance for communities/individuals in dire need of “help” whereas development assistance is about providing compelling opportunities so that communities/individuals can “help themselves”. So how does social entrepreneurship fit into this? The social entrepreneurship approach represents an evolution even beyond traditional development assistance. As Bill Drayton, the founder of the Ashoka Foundation, states "Social entrepreneurs are not content just to give a fish or teach how to fish. They will not rest until they have revolutionized the fishing industry." -Social Entrepreneur Corp website
Nebaj is the home of the Ixil group, one of the most distinct Mayan cultures. The Ixiles are world famous for their stunning, intricately women traditional clothing, and it is a wonderful experience for a traveler to visit a place where the local culture feels at the same time so traditional and so vibrant. Nebaj is far from the cosmopolitan sophistication of Antigua, but it is also a bustling, lively town.
Service and projects while in Nebaj can include helping out in the Centro Explorativo, working with local entrepreneurs, and helping in the after school classes.
